"Anti-Aging Medicine Under Attack," Warns DR. RON KLATZ: Covert Political Powers Try to Bust the Booming Anti-Aging Marketplace

March 28, 2001 (Chicago, IL) / The American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine (A4M, Chicago IL, www.worldhealth.net) writes you today on a matter of urgent importance. Anti-aging medicine is under an unwarranted and unprecipitated attack. A premeditated, malicious, and deliberate disinformation campaign directed at dismantling the singlemost unified group of innovative physicians and scientists in America is now underway. A powerful old-boy network is investing enormous time, personnel, and financial resources on destroying today's most successful, most popular, and fastest-growing medical society.

Left unaddressed, a series of manufactured events portends a dramatic downward turn in your ability to practice anti-aging medicine or the market for your anti-aging product or service.     You are urged to help A4M mount our campaign for corrective action.

Anti-aging medicine is a medical specialty founded on the application of advanced scientific and medical technologies for the early detection, prevention, treatment, and reversal of age-related diseases. It is a healthcare model promoting innovative science and research to prolong the healthy lifespan in humans. As such, anti-aging medicine is based on principles of sound and responsible medical care that are consistent with those applied in other preventive health specialties.

A4M is a non-commercial, not-for-profit volunteer society of physicians and scientists who approach diseases as being treatable and largely preventable, and aging as a medical disorder of dysfunctional metabolism. Our society coordinates education and training programs for healthcare professionals internationally. A4M does not sell or endorse commercial products. Indeed, the A4M is the world's only professional organization dedicated to advancing research and clinical pursuits that enhance the quality, and extend the quantity, of the human lifespan. From its humble beginnings eight years ago by a dozen forward-looking physicians, the rosters of A4M now maintain 10,000 physician, health practitioner, allied health professional, scientist, and general public members hailing from sixty nations.

A4M is, and continues to be, a leading advocate of the right of a physician to practice medicine according to sound practices and individual conscience, and the right for each patient to choose the form of medical therapy they feel best suits their unique medical needs. A4M is a professional organization that has successfully proliferated four key elements requisite in a model of wellness-oriented medical care:
~ custom compounding of natural (body-friendly) pharmaceutical products
~ expanded-label use of medications prescribed by physicians
~ patient education and empowerment
~ patient and physician advocacy for application of innovative medical therapies
These successes achieved by A4M physicians are perceived as a threat to the medical power elite. Those presiding over HMOs and big pharmaceutical companies peddling name-brand drug therapy have made medicine a mega-profitable big business. Over 44% of all Americans are taking at least one prescription medication, and 20% of Americans are afflicted with a permanent disability. Despite America spending more per-capita on health, we still have 40 to 50 million Americans who are uninsured and are without access to quality healthcare. A4M physicians and scientists are united in a pledge to uncover the underlying cause of illnesses and aging. In reward for our search for the cures to chronic and degenerative diseases, we have become unwitting targets for persecution.

In the past nine months, A4M has observed a pattern of negative media attempting to deride anti-aging medicine. This campaign is fueled, and likely funded, by a small circle of instigators that has promised financial and professional incentives to succeed -- at any cost. A coincidental series of events in the past three months suggests professional impropriety, abuses of authority, and perhaps even criminal wrongdoing -- on the part of the media and political forces involved.

Repeatedly through this nation's history, we have witnessed a biased media take aim at new medical innovations and innovators. Nearly six decades ago, at U.S. Supreme Court Justice Louis D. Brandeis' memorial service in 1942, a eulogy made the unfortunate -- yet true -- observation that "The hand that rules the press, the radio, the screen and the far-spread magazine, rules the country." Facts in anti-aging medicine oft miscommunicated by members of the press:
FACT: A4M is not aware of any lawsuits for wrongful death being brought against a physician for practicing anti-aging medicine.
FACT: State licensing boards perceive innovative physicians -- such as those practicing anti-aging medicine, as ripe targets for administrative actions.
FACT:    Hormone replacement therapy, performed judiciously and administered in physiological doses by qualified anti-aging physicians, is well researched and scientifically documented to improve health and have not been shown to increase one's risk of death.
FACT: Anti-aging medicine is a multi-disciplinary model for wellness-based healthcare, uniting physicians and scientists across specialties in a spirit of cooperative research and application to promote a scientifically-validated whole-body approach to individual medical care.

Achievements notwithstanding, a series of disquieting events beginning in July 2000 gives A4M reasonable cause to suspect a choreographed attempt to cast anti-aging medicine in a false light. These activities include:
· Individuals misrepresenting themselves as independent reporters by presenting false credentials, and instigating interference with A4M's academic affiliates
· Anonymous accusations filed with State Licensing Boards against anti-aging physicians
· Reports of increased actions by state regulatory agencies to investigate manufacturers of nutritional products
· Bogus calls by individuals implying government status (who in reality had none) to supporters of A4M questioning the validity of our academic program
· Unsupported and biased media broadcasts seemingly with the sole agenda to discredit the anti-aging movement

We suspect these activities were initiated for the sole purpose of attempting to compromise the integrity of the A4M, its membership, and its officers. Currently, A4M's legal and political supporters are conducting a full-scale investigation to uncover the motivations and incentive for the hostile media campaign against anti-aging medicine.

Over the past eight years of A4M's history, we have supported dozens of physicians, several pharmacists, and a few manufacturers of quality nutraceutical products against unfair and unsubstantiated disciplinary actions -- each of these attacks were later discovered to be politically motivated. Today, A4M must defend itself against media purposefully disguised and deliberately orchestrated to undo the good work of this society of volunteers.

We urge you to assist A4M with the defense of the clinical specialty of anti-aging medicine. We submit that the maturation of anti-aging medicine as a major market segment has triggered a battle for control of this new leading model for healthcare. Do not let covert forces shackle this life-enhancing clinical specialty.

Please:
1. If you have not done so, renew your individual or organizational membership in A4M. Or, initiate a new A4M membership -- for yourself or a friend -- today. We rely on dues to sustain our advocacy of this specialty on your behalf, and our current efforts in refuting the inaccurate and unwarranted hostile media and political climate against anti-aging medicine has been quite costly. Contact our Membership Department at (773) 528-4333 ext. 5# for prompt processing, or visit A4M's Longevity Store at www.worldhealth.net.

2. On your practice or company letterhead, fax us your statement of support, at (773) 528-5390. These communications will be assembled into a formal petition to supporters of anti-aging medicine on Capitol Hill to investigate the unprecipitated persecution of anti-aging and alternative medicine.
